CAUSTIC CLARIFICATION SYSTEM FOR THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY USING MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY

Cellulose is extracted from pulp using sodium hydroxide and subsequently treated with high purity sodium hydroxide to produce soda cellulose. Further, chemical treatment results in a rayon fiber. Due to these processes caustic streams get contaminated with Hemicellulose.

Existing conventional methods feed the entire Hemicellulose contaminated caustic stream load in the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and hence incur huge capital and operational costs for waste management systems.

Advanced INDION specialty membrane system is used for clarification of caustic by reduction of color & Hemicellulose. Added advantage is it recovers valuable clarified caustic, which is used in process of mercerization of fiber to achieve greater strength and consistent luster. It is also used in the production of viscose rayon.

INDION specialty membrane system reduces load on downstream ETP system. It reduces size of ETP units & chemical consumption for neutralization. Also saves energy of equipments, sludge handling systems and sludge disposal.
